Each year the proceeds from the race are distributed to graduating high school students who live in the Five Towns. Each of the 12 organizations who provide volunteers on race day select a student at the end of the school year based on their own individual criteria.
The students receive their award in June at a small ceremony, where they tell the committee which college they will be attending and what their likely major will be. It has been a very rewarding experience for those involved, to raise funds and to invest them back into the higher education of our outstanding youth.
